The Green Barn, Co. Kildare

I recently visited Burton House for the first time and was so impressed by The Green Barn Restaurant.

Burtown’s Green Barn Restaurant is a contemporary and chic restaurant set in the historic gardens of Burtown House. In the front parkland, and overlooking the walled vegetable garden.

The interior design of the restaurant is stunning. It is based on old-style Scandinavian barns with a New England twist.

Combining high ceilings, rustic textures, individual table settings, and specially designed pottery, linen, and cutlery.

What’s more, interior spaces regularly feature different art exhibitions. Large photos from the acclaimed Vanishing Ireland books, as well as sculptures from Zimbabwe. And by Irish artists, with French and Dutch antiques sourced specifically for The Green Barn.

The restaurant serves only the freshest possible seasonal produce.

That has almost always come straight from the kitchen gardens, polytunnels, and surrounding fields. It is Michelin-star quality food.

As they mention on their website (burtownhouse.ie/green-barn-restaurant) they are almost 100% self-sufficient. And use sustainable methods for all their food production. No chemicals or pesticides have been used in their food production for as long as they have been growing here, for well over 150 years.

The restaurant is easily accessible as a quick brunch or lunch stop. For a more relaxed luncheon-style affair, or for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights.

Jo’s Pantry at The Green Barn sells delicious fresh, seasonal produce. Irish and French cheeses, olives, preserves, homemade pestos, dips with interesting dried foods, fresh sourdough bread, and seasonal produce from the gardens.

I visited Burtown House 2nd of March and their manager was very pleasant and welcoming. We went there for brunch and it was the day after Pancake Day in Ireland. So, I loved to try their pancakes. They served homemade buttermilk pancakes with berry compote, organic Greek yogurt, and candied hazelnuts or crispy bacon and maple syrup. And the pancakes looked and tasted delicious.

I was delighted and highly recommend going for brunch at The Green Barn Restaurant at Burtown House.
