Brittas Bay Beach is arguably one of Ireland’s most well-known beaches.
County Wicklow is better known for Wicklow Mountains National Park but the county’s coastline has also some stunning beaches worth visiting.
Located on the east coast of the island in County Wicklow, Brittas Bay is a popular destination for holidays, with many visitors making the trip down from Dublin at weekends.
Brittas Bay has been awarded European Union (EU) Blue Flag. This award recognizes beaches for their excellent environmental management. With no headlands to interfere with the peaceful rhythm, it is ideal for bathing, surfing, and walking.
Brittas`s 5km stretch of powdery sand and sand dunes, is designated as a proposed Special Area of Conservation (SAC).
It is an area of ecological importance and habitats of interest include sand dunes, ferns, and grassland areas. The landscape is dominated by the dunes which cover approx 100 hectares. The beach is lifeguarded throughout the bathing season.
Brittas Bay has some of the best beaches in County Wicklow. There are two beaches – Brittas Bay South Beach and Brittas Bay North Beach.
Brittas Bay South Beach is one of the most popular beaches in County Wicklow. It is a beautiful long sandy beach. It has a 5 km stretch of beach on the Irish Sea coast and beautiful white sand dunes and has won and maintained the Blue Flag for many years now. Ideal for bathing, sailing, and walking.
Brittas Bay North is the topmost section of an approximately 4.5 km (3 miles) stretch of sandy coast. The beach here is known for the impressive sand dune system that it backs onto, a Special Area of Conservation.
The most I love Curracloe Beach in County Wexford but Brittas Bay Beach also amazed me. I spent a fab day at this stunning beach. The weather was gorgeous and it made me feel like a holiday in Spain. It is a great beach for walking, lovely sand, great selection of colored stones to pick from.
Only 30 minutes’ drive by car from Brittas Bay is the Wicklow Mountains National Park.
