After visiting Johnstown Castle, we were looking for a nice place for dinner and found this wonderful pub called The Coal Bunker Bar.
The Coal Bunker Bar is a family-run restaurant in Ballykelly, Drinagh in County Wexford.
From the outside, it looks very ordinary but it is a good honest local bar and restaurant with plenty of choice and quality food in a relaxing, friendly environment.
The Bar has an old cozy indoor pub and outdoor dining areas which give lots of choices for seating. The food is served all day, Monday – Tuesday: 12 noon – 11.30 pm and Wednesday – Sunday: 9.30 am – 11.30 pm.
They have a range of food: full Irish breakfast, chicken, lasagne, noodles, beef burger, steak, duck, fish and chips, sole, seafood, salads, sambos, wraps, and ciabattas. Gluten-free available and Vegan as well.
The Coal Bunker Bar has also an extensive beer, whiskey, and gin menu and the TVs sports.
As I saw on their Facebook website The Coal Bunker Bar organize often live music in The Barn which is their entertainment area with rustic charm.
It was Sunday afternoon, great atmosphere and people watching the match. Even it was no problem to change our site when it became too cool in The Barn and we went to sit in a cozy indoor area.
We enjoyed our food, the portions were very generous, with so much to choose from the menu. I ordered grilled fillets of lemon sole in a rich creamy prawn and scallop cream. And my friend ordered Sunday Specials: darne of salmon in lemon butter sauce. All were very tasty, well presented, and served by a friendly staff. Therefore, I highly recommend going for lunch/dinner there.
