Fussy Galore is the most well-known Vintage Shop in the town of Carlow, known not only in County Carlow but in all of Ireland and abroad.
The shop is located in the heart of the town of Carlow on one of the main streets, and more precisely on Dublin Street.
It’s definitely not a regular antiques shop, oh no!
At Fussy Galore you can find original, high-quality vintage and retro clothing and accessories for men and women who prefer the taste and style of times gone by, mainly outfits from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. Fussy also offers a collection of rockabilly costumes, costumes popular in Strictly Come Dancing competitions, as well as costumes for weddings, communions and other official ceremonies. Some clothes have never been worn or used. The offer also includes limited collections of clothes Lindy Bop, Dolly and Dotty, and Banned Apparel.
Off course you can also find vinage style jewelry, handbags, shoes, belts, scarves, hats and other wardrobe accessories, but also books, various home accessories, e.g. 70s curtains, glass and porcelain.
The shop is described by customers as “Aladdin’s Cave”; “A shop where you could die peacefully” and as “good fun rummaging”.
The story of Fussy Galore:
The name Fussy Galore comes from Pussy Galore – a fictional character from the novel of Ian Fleming with James Bond from 1959, Goldfinger and the 1964 film of the same title.
The owner of Fussy Galore is Nuala Reddy (Reddy from hair color and this is not a real name) aka Fussy Galore, who since childhood loved fashion and clothes. She started in school years, sewing her own clothes, then accepting orders from friends and people who stopped to admire her outfits. Nuala led her first fashion show under the slogan “Go For It” when she was 17 years old. Her designs were made in vintage style. She traveled the world for fifteen years and loved to collect unusual and eccentric outfits wherever she went.
Today, Nuala acquires clothes and items from several countries. You can meet her at various vintage fairs and other entertainment events in Ireland throughout the year. Private meetings are also available to people who prefer discretion when shopping.
Each item available in the store is hand-made, repaired, refurbished, cleaned and “beloved” by Nuala. The assortment includes: day and evening clothing, cocktail and all kinds of fabulous dresses suitable for ceremonies, celebrations, etc. Also a collection of jewelry, hats, scarves and bags. For men … jackets (especially tweedy), sometimes coats, vests, sweaters, ties, hats, suspenders, silk scarves, suits and so, dresses and heels too. Discretion assured.

Fussy Galore outfits were included in fashion television shows, i.e. Xposé on TV3 and TV-AM, in the series Do not Tell the Bride and on Nationwide RTE. Recently, the Badlands television program bought a haberdashery kit and lampshades from Fussy. Some of the items are in the GPO Museum as part of the 1916 exhibition. Nuala had the pleasure of working on a Buckled Cranium movie and providing costumes. Fussy Galore dresses also appeared in the Avonmore Cream commercial with chef Neven Maguire.
Every year, the Irish Times announces the election of The Best Shops in Ireland in various categories. In 2016, Fussy Galore Vintage Shop won the Best Shops in Ireland award in the Best Presenting category (The Best Front Shop).
